Women With ADHD ADD

For Women with ADHD ADD Who Want to Connect

I have seen several posts here about having both.  I haven't been diagnosed with ADD yet, but I DEFINITELY have anxiety.  My question is, how do these two go together??  I mean, the stuff you take for ADD would be an upper but anxiety requires a downer.  Do do ADD meds make anxiety worse?  Or does it help because it takes care of the stuff you get so anxious about?

Well, oddly enough if medications for ADHD are taken by someone who does not have the disorder, they will get a high similar to cocaine. If someone with ADHD does cocaine, they get the similar effects as if they had taken adderal or any other ADHD drug.

The point is, yes, meds for ADHD are uppers, but they have the opposite effect on those with ADHD. In fact, I myself am diagnosed ADHD and I find taking the drugs make me feel more relaxed and less stressed. I to get anxiety from time to time. I find that the drugs may help it, but they do not worsen it. I really believe that everyone is different, and there is no set answer, I would ask a doctor.

Hope that helps!

I was misdiagnosed with anxiety for years and given the exact wrong meds. No wonder they didn't work! Now I realize I probably have both, because I am anxious thanks to all the difficulties and stigma I have had because of adhd. I get freaked out when I think I have screwed up because of adhd, and I get panic attacks when there are expectations I know I can't meet (like in a job). I usually have a little less anxiety when I have my adhd symptoms managed by meds, but I try to take a bunch of B vitamins and Sam-E (a natural mood support found in health food and grocery stores) to help with the mood management. Food also seems to make a big difference--a protein heavy diet balances me out and minimizes the anxiety. Also exercise!
