I noticed that no one responded to your questions. I'm looking for responses to your questions too. I was just going to post a similar discussion as I am new to taking Concerta. I was on 18 mg but today I'm starting 36 mg. I definitely don't want to feel tired or zoned out from it. Just wondering how to know when you are at the right dosage also.
My 8 yr old takes Adderall and it works well until it starts to wear off and she then has "mini meltdowns" I don't need 2 of us having them if thats what a higher dosage does.
I do also have issues with motivation (at home, mundane tasks etc) and need advice on that.
At work I am more alert and focussed and am more relaxed and having fun.
I am no longer on concerta as it just made me tired. I became unmotivated, or hyper focused, and i didn't feel like myself. Today is started vyvanse after trying adderall, dexedrine and focalin. Adderall worked for as well, until it wore off and i became very angry and edgy, and i am a believer in a medicine should not change who you are, but improve you. So aderall was out. Dexedrine made me alert, but not sure about the focus but it had the least side effects, so he decided on vyvanse to see if this works for me.
My belief on when the dose and medicine is right is: while it is working you are focused and alert, and side effects should be few or gone within 2 weeks. If they are not, then the dose or medication is not right. My first rx was ritalin short lasting and one day i took it and the side effects were gone, but again, it made me more focused than motivated. If you feel tired then its not right, go on to the next medicine. If you are worried about adderall and meltdowns ask your doctor about dexedrine, i found it smoother and everyone told me i was just myself.. and that was the MOST important

Hi, I'm new to..well all of this. I was diagnosed about a month ago and started on 18mg Concerta once a day. It makes me really calm too, which was nice at first..but I really want to be able to accomplish something! I was switched to 5mg Adderall twice a day and I saw big improvements in my ability to focus, but the crashes were pretty horrible. I called my doc and couldn't get hr for like a week (I thought this was appalling) and I ended up taking both meds and having some success with it. Well she finally called me back and says not to mix them so I'm back to just Concerta 18mg now twice a day. I got up this morning and actually didn't feel motivated enough to go to work. Normally I would at least freak out about all responsibilities I have there and go anyway, but noooo not today. I've spent all day on the couch (It was gorgeous outside too) surfing the web for answers. I hope somebody out there knows what this is about!
This is my second month on concerta and i'm just now starting to see the benefits. I was on strattera and LOVED it, but had some really awful side effects (lack of sleep, circulatory problems, etc.) With my ADD I have alot of anxiety. At first, I felt that concerta exaserbated the anxiety. I am on 27mg and I think my body has adjusted to the dose and I can concentrate and plan better, however, still anxious at times. As soon as my dose of Concerta runs out, I do get so tired too. If I know I am giong to be out late, I try and plan for a small nap after work, or try and get a little extra sleep the night before.
I view medication with ADHD like this: the medication allows my physiological issues to be treated, so I can treat the social/behavioral issues through cognitive behavior therapy and such. So hopefully, someday, when I come off of medication, I will have developed strong habits and a self awareness to manage the issue without medication when need be.
I am seeing an ADHD coach on Monday, and I am super psyched about this. I will for sure give an update about it.
Hi!!
I am new to all of this, I have been treated for anxiety and depression for most of my life. I have recently been diagnosed with add. I am on 100 mg of Zoloft and now 36 MG of Concerta. I started with the two doses of ritalin at 5mg, then 20 mg of the time released Ritalin. At my last appointment they switched me to 36 MG of Concerta because I didnt like the initial speediness of the Ritalin. I have just completed my second day on the Concerta. I have no problems sleeping. However I am so thirsty and I am constantly grinding my teeth and licking my lips. Will this go away???
