Dr. appt tomorrow & still cant decide if I should switch to Vyvanse

I've been on adderall 20mg twice a day for years and years, about six months ago he upped my dose to 3 times a day b/c I have to go to night school... and my medicine was wearing off by 3 pm.

Anyway now I am back in the same boat, it helped a little when I started taking the 3rd dose, but now I feel the same. Like it just goes right through me and wears off before I have a chance to get anything done. Im just wondering around all day moving stuff from one place to another and accomplishing only the most vital tasks to keep the house running like laundry and dishes.

So I have an appt. tomorrow and was thinking about finally trying Vyvanse, although Im a little worried b/c in the past when I try to get off adderall it seems like my life just falls apart. I hated strattera, and concerta gave me a major headache, which I endured b/c I thought it would subside after a week or two.. nope! I need my medicine to kick in and start working early in the morning so that I can get out of bed and get started... I usually don't feel like Im fully functioning until late afternoon anyway.

I have been wanting to switch for over a year but I always chicken out and just get adderall b/c it's "safer than nothing" but Im just sick of not getting anything accomplished and staying in the same unproductive cycle.

Should I just go for it? Or am I going to hate it & spend the next month crying in bed wishing I had adderall? I know it's late, but I will check back before my appt tomorrow afternoon so I can make a choice.

My son is on Vivanse. It is a 12-14 hour sustained release adderall. Chemically they are supposed to be pretty much the same except that the Vivanse gives you fewer peaks and valleys of therapeutic coverage because of the way it is released into the blood stream. It is new technology and most of the reports that I have read have be overwhelmingly positive. If anything,it works a little too well as sometimes you do not have a 14 hour day (especially if you are 8 years old). This med does not ebb as most medicines do. It gives you the specific dose for 12-14 hours. Tess http://primarilyinattentiveadd.com

I tried it...for about a week it seemed better, then it lost its effect. I have been on Adderall XR 30mg ,2 pills in the am. So went back on the Adderall XR and the Dr added reg Adderall for the afternoon if i need it.It seems to be working :)

I was taking Adderall 40 mg but working 10 hour shifts. About 8 hours into my shift I could feel the Adderall wear off. I have been taking VyVanse for about a year and I have liked it. I have not had any side effects and it appears to last me into the evening. The only drawback is that you might want to take it as early as you can since it can keep you awake if you take it later.

My issue with the adhd meds is insurance. I am 43 and have state insurance- SoonerCare. I began 2 years ago with 30mg time release Adderal and now tke 45 mg of generic adderal because of cost. If I was under 16 yrs old, insurance will cover but they do not cover someone of my age. I really wish more awareness was brought to the attention of adults having the condition. Especially women because we are affected more severly as we become adults.

OMG, I was in the SAME boat! I didn't like how little sleep I got on Adderall & I had zero appetite! I wanted to switch to something else so I tried Daytrana, Concerta, Focalin, and ALL of them did nothing for me! I felt like a zombie & could not feel awake to save my soul...then my Dr. suggested Vyvanse & I LOVED IT!!!!!!! Instead of taking like 6 pills/day (which is what my tolerance for Adderall had built me up to) to only taking2 pills/day & they work GREAT!!! Obviously every person is different but my personal experience with Vyvanse will have me suggesting it to anyone with ADHD who's tired of Adderall!! GOOD LUCK!

Okay no one replied b4 my doctors appt so I just got adderall again. I have done a little more research since then and have come to the conclusion that the highest dose of Vyvance is 70mg a day which is about equal to 30mg extended release adderall.
Since Im on 60 mg adderall that would mean I would need 2 70mg Vyvance, which is double the max dosage, so I don't think my doctor would write me a script for the amount I need.
The max/daily is based on the trials with children, not adults. They haven't officially approved it for adults yet.. which is why 70 mg is the max now.
