Women With ADHD ADD

For Women with ADHD ADD Who Want to Connect

hi everyone,

i just joined and i am at my wits end.

my house is a wreck and i cant seem to get moving. day after day i sit and surf the internet. while my house gets worse & worse.

ive tried every single planner, iphone application, book and of course i have tons of "the perfect" storage containers. yet nothing ever seems to get put in them.

i just stumbled on this site (i think it was in an iphone organization app review) and maybe just maybe i can get motivated.

one thing i hate is when i do get moving, i dont want to stop. thats a good & bad thing. but lets say i have had a day of really kicking butt cleaning, then it really makes me mad when i have to stop & make dinner.

stupid huh?

ok, i feel like this post is just a bunch of rambling.

i cant even seem to write out exactly what i want to say.

oh, and im off my meds right now.
lol I saw your subject and had to come see your post. I have felt the same way recently! I have a lot of "visual clutter" today - the kitchen, bedroom, and office are a mess! (Did I mention I should actually be working productively right now? Ha!)

I took some blank paper to a coffee shop and made a schedule for my day. E.g. from 9-10 I would clean the kitchen for 15 minutes, fold laundry for 15 minutes, and clean the kitchen again for 15 minutes. (I decided it doesn't matter WHAT I get done as long as I do something I think needs done.) Having a set amount of time to do it helps because then I don't get so focused that I can't do anything else. (Sometimes I do set the timer for 5 more minutes so I can "finish up" but then I can move on.) You can do this for whatever needs to be done.

One website that has helped me is flylady.net. She explains the timer concept much better.

And now ... off to the kitchen for my snack and to clean up in there for another 15.
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply!

Sometimes I feel like renting a dumpster and getting rid of 90% of the stuff in my house!

Oh! I forgot to mention I have a business that I do from home... Making craft type things and party planning. I have craft supplies EVERYWHERE!

Hobby Lobby calls me when they are low on inventory.

Yeah, I work from home too, I'm a lawyer. Business is pretty slow recently, so it's hard to get myself motivated to do marketing, etc. and things get to be cluttered here.

Really-spend some time decluttering, and putting away your craft stuff. Easier said than done, I know! I've been cleaning and working all morning, and now I feel like there's more to do than when I started!

The internet is my Achilles heel, too! I should be cleaning up the lunch dishes yet here I am, in front of the computer, again. :-) I could use a butt-kicking sometimes, too. I'm getting better though. I can keep my kitchen reasonably clean, but then I don't have much choice as we have a mouse problem (there's modivation, then there's modivation!) And I think it makes it easier that I don't have a job outside the home. I have a pretty good understanding of my limitations. Having to make a living and take care of the house AND be a mother to two little ones would be just too much for me to handle right now.
Jeez, now who's rambling?! :-)
Thanks so much y'all! I really love reading all this because I have felt so alone and like I'm the only one.

I really appreciate y'all taking the time to reply! It helps A LOT!

oh yeah...... if you could see my room right now, you would think someone broke into my house and ransacked this room.... paper everywhere, books..... odds and ends.....

I just don't know how to create "homes" for all my odds and ends... and I'm highly visual so I need stuff out to remind me of things I need to do....

common problem, isn't it?

and yes, Flylady can be really great... tried it years ago.... but all those e-mails can create a lot of Inbox clutter.... LOL.

Ketchup
WOW. It was as if I had written this email. I was diagnosed 1 year ago with ADHD and have been on Adderal since then. I have now been evaluated as having the most severe form - "Ring of Fire". I am 44 years old and a mother of 4 daughters ages 21, 20, 7 and 3. I know EXACTLY what you mean about starting housework and getting mad when you have to stop and fix dinner. when I get focused on task at hand, it is hard for me to shift gears to another one. I live in an area that has no support system or much awareness of women struggling with ADHD. I would like some help.
just wanted to say LOL on the rambling comment....I am too familiar

Yes, flylady! Flylady.net has been really useful to me. I don't think I can keep up with all the emails, but I just do a search for flylady, check all and delete them. The thing she does for me is to tell me what to do and for how long. I need that with my decluttering, because I also will start cleaning and not be able to stop. Then I am so burnt out that I don't do it again for a long time. The website has helped me look at how to do a little here and there and not worry about getting it all done at once.
