Women With ADHD ADD

For Women with ADHD ADD Who Want to Connect

Is it just me or having ADD in today's society hard? Our world is way too fast paced and we have way too many choices to choose from. I get pretty overwhelmed at times. I am working on getting better tools to deal with things though. Hoping things settle down. Then again, once they do something else will come up to deal with. I guess that's just life though.

I totally agree. One of the things I "vent" to my best friend and my therapist (two different people) that it is hard to function with ADHD in an ADHD unfriendly world.  Everything is out to get our attention, and having trouble keeping our focus, it's non-stop "ooh shiny" or "SQUIRREL!" all the time!

lol, definitely agreed with Alyssa. Everything's so distracting! But, at the same time, technology has advanced in such a way that it can help people with ADHD, in my opinion. For example, all the reminders on my phone, the apps, calendar, etc... They're all a REAL lifesaver. I recommend if you're having trouble, try using all the capabilities of your phone. Now, I rarely forget anything that's important lol

To me, technology, choices, and the pace of today's society doesn't help. My phone (use to computer), I can be in 24/7 which can be a bad thing. Now you have your choice of a dozen items (food, shampoos, cars, etc) that are overwhelming at just choosing one. Then we seem to have all these 'things' to do like work, school and social activities. I guess my point is that the world today is more challenging to me than for some people.

For me, a big issue is the very item I'm using right now:  the internet.  I have to use it for work and it's so easy to open a new tab and go wandering somewhere else.  Even at home it's a distraction so some evenings I will force myself to keep the computer turned off.  Since the internet really got going when I was in college I half-jokingly ask older colleagues how people goofed off at work before the internet and they respond that there was a lot more time spent around the water cooler.

Thanks for the reply, HockeyLvr. Like I said, we are bombarded with almost unlimited choices and it overwhelms me. I think of kids. If you give them too many choices they get overwhelmed so you just give them two or three things to choose from. Maybe I need a person to narrow things down for me to just a few choices instead of a bunch.

Yes I get what you mean I feel like I'm drinking from a fire hydrant, just flooded with choices, options, differences. It can paralyze me into not making a decision or not responding to something or someone just because I'm trying to choose. I;m trying to choose some career path but I'm torn: I'm trying to choose a cell phone thought I made a decision but this phone does this and that phone does that.  I'm not so sure

now.

I've had an iPhone for years. I 'looked' at others earlier this year but they ALL had too many bells and whilstes. My husband has an android phone and I hate it. It takes me three or four more steps to do something on his phone that only takes one on my. The iPhone is pretty simple and user friendly.
