Women With ADHD ADD

For Women with ADHD ADD Who Want to Connect

I just found out I have inattentive ADD that has been the route of a lot of my relationship troubles and difficulties at work.  I started Wellbutrin 150mg XR each morning.  Ive been on it a little over 2 weeks.  I thought I got over the worst of the side effects the first week, dizziness, racing thoughts, etc.  The second week was wonderful, all my add stuff seemed to vanish than bam, the worst anxiety ive ever had for 3 days, I almost couldnt function at work, difficulty breathing, and dizziness.  Anyways, I couldnt hack it despite the help with the ADD and i just stopped.  I hope I can find something that I can tolerate.   Ive heard fish oil helps, maybe ill just try to go all natural.  This is the first med ive tried for ADD and wow, it seemed so good, but I could not get over the anxiety and irritablity.

ok, I prob shouldnt have stopped cold turkey.  I went from content in my relationship to getting into a big fight and telling him to get out!  I need some stability in my life!  But these meds are way 2 strong and scary for me to try!

We tried Wellbutrin first when I was diagnosed, and it was terrible for me--like shaking all the time, etc.  We switched to Adderall, and it's been great.  We HAVE had to make some adjustments to help it work better (especially the crash at the end of the day), but it's been totally worth the effort.  I know people get scared of the meds because of what they've heard, what they could be, etc., but they really ARE safe.  And have changed my life.  Others may have stories that support or contradict my experience, and I hope they jump in.  But being monitored by a doc I trust, it's been all good.  Hang in there!

It may be too late to tell you this, but....Wellbutrin is a medication you generally can't abruptly stop.  Here is a page that discusses it a little bit: http://depression.emedtv.com/wellbutrin-xl/stopping-wellbutrin-xl.html  Now, 2 weeks may not be enough time to have been on it to have side effects coming off, but I would ask your doctor.  At the very least, go down to 150mg for a while, then try every other day...but please ask your doctor.

I've been on Wellbutrin SR for several years for depression. Jenny is absolutely right about stopping abruptly. The last time I missed more than one dose, I had two minor car accidents in a single day. Be very careful and talk to your doctor before you stop taking it.

Just thought I'd post an update. I went to my first appointment for ADHD evaluation and the psychiatric nurse (I don't get to see the psychiatrist until next month) recommended doubling my Wellbutrin from 150 mg to 300 mg. Surprisingly, I noticed the effects immediately. I've been a bit a little drowsy and loopy. I've also been generally calmer than I've ever felt in my life. My mind feels like it's moving in slow motion and my speech has slowed down dramatically. I'm finding it rather alarming, actually. If this is what normal feels like, I'm not sure I like it. :)

The areas where I don't see a change so far are in my procrastination and difficulty staying on task. Maybe as the increased dose builds in my system and my body gets used to the side effects, I'll see some improvement there. Did I mention I've been afraid to drive? That may be the real test - if I can drive without getting immensely frustrated and screaming at the other drivers, I'll know it's working.

Were you taking the name brand Wellbutrin XR or the generic? Many say that there isn't any difference; however, the name brand works great for me. The generic bupropion doesn't seem to be strong enough or something. I would truely like to know the difference in the chemical compound because it is a constant battle with my insurance company. I have taken Wellbutrin XR for ADHD for about fifteen years now and I think it is great. It has just been in the past 4 years that the Dr added Adderall XR and the two medications together have really changed my life for the better. Maybe your Dr could try you on a lower dose of the generic bupropion, I know it comes in 100mg tablets. If you could stick it out on a lower dose it may work for you. Just don't give up and work closely with your doctor, they will find the right meds for you. I do hope things work out for you I know how bad it can be. Have a Blessed day. :)

Hi all! I'm new to the ADHD community and for the past 4 months or so I've been struggling with finding the right meds to help me control my symptoms. I've gone through THREE different pdocs since october of 2012, and now I've finally found one I'm comfortable with at my college. A little about me: I'm a 20 year old college junior on a pre-medical track. I have huge dreams and even bigger expectations of myself which eats me alive most of the time. My symptoms include constant anxiety, irritability, severe concentration and focusing problems, easily distracted and frustrated with any unnecessary stimuli, school work struggles, lack of organization, constant fidgeting, absolutely no patience, and some bouts of hyperactivity at least once a day. Anyway, I've struggled with the different types of Ritalin the past few months (10 mg SR as needed to 30 mg LA/day to 36mg Concerta back to 20mg LA plus 150mg Wellbutrin XL). My latest doctor seems to think that I don't actually have ADHD but that my symptoms are due to an underlying depression and anxiety because I just physically could not handle the side effects of the stimulants. Thus, I've quit all stimulants and I've been on the 150mg Wellbutrin XL 2 solid weeks now. I was wondering if anyone else has ever dealt with ADHD symptoms from depression/anxiety and if Wellbutrin had helped in anyway? I know it takes time to notice a difference but I'm truly hoping it starts to help soon. So far, I can totally tell that the "static" in my head has been turned down quite a bit, and I've noticed a wonderful, youthful sense of energy the past few days. Can anyone relate? I'm just looking for a little clarity on Wellbutrin and how I'm supposed to know it's helping! Thank you!

it's been a few years since I started welbutrin and effexor for depression.  A bit after starting those medications I was diagnose with ADD and begun taking ritilin. This combo helped me get through the work day just fine.  Being at home was another story, the ritilin had worn off and I was back to my old habits of coping.  Recently, I changed pdoc to take a fresh look at the meds. They were changed and are working much better. Little by little the house is becoming organized and maintaining is easier, changing behavior and breaking old habits for new ones is the hardest part.

Wellbutin never gave me any side effects, combined with adderall has lifted my depression enough to make it through the day.
