For Women with ADHD ADD Who Want to Connect

Hi I hit my highest weight the other day 30pounds higher than I should be. Last night I watched TV using my DVR it skipped over all the food commercials. and I did not have time to go to the cabinet to get food. Having ADD it is harder to follow all the right things to Eat. Katie

Katie - I am 50 pounds overweight and at age 47 it's getting harder and harder. I wish I had a way to skip over food commercials. Hang in there. I know how tough it is when you think you're hungry and you get impulsive and eat anyway.

It's not just the impulsivity but having to make decisions too. I have to have my food choices made before I'm hungry or before I think I'm hungry. If I don't I just pretty much grab anything.

I was able to lose weight the last year, partly due to the DX and medication which makes me less tired all the time, but also because I have some food intolerances, which when I eliminated them I felt so much better, more energy, that I actually enjoy exercizing for the first time in my life. If you live with someone else or have children I imagine it can be harder if they have unhealthy food around, but I try to just not have a lot of "temptation" food in the house. A little bit here and there is good, so you won't feel deprived, but substituting healthier foods and not giving yourself the option of poor choices helps a lot. In the beginning it can be hard because your body and brain crave that shot of carb or fat, but once you get over the initial shock it gets easier. I'd eat more fruit if I could, one of my intolerances. I could easily sit and eat a whole mango, a big bowl of grapes, melon and so forth. The other day I bought a granola type bar that I used to love in the past and it gagged me, it was so sweet. A square of dark chocolate or a cracker with a little Nutella or jam is enough to knock back the cravings without going completely mad. And I use my hyperfocus when shopping and planning meals, concentrating on how good eating healthy is for me, how good it makes me feel.

Diagnosis. Sorry. It's used fairly often in medical or psych forums.
