Angela, Thanks for sharing your tips. They are great! I love the suggestion of the plastic hook on the side of the fridge! We have a key rack by the door, which works well, but your idea is awesome! I love your idea of putting one fun thing on your…

Mary, These are great suggestions! I used to use an electronic calendar on my computer, but I got a Blackberry about a year and a half ago, so now I use the calendar on it exclusively to keep track of appointments. I always have my phone with me, so…

Amy, I have problems with one of your issues--maintaining long-term intimate relationships or friendships. The friendships are the most important to me, and I realized a bit ago that I simply didn't seem able to ensure that the people I valued the m…

I'm not a runner, but I do walk nearly every day, and it definitely helps my ADD and depression--majorly. I think one of the reasons I've been able to do it pretty regularly (for the last 8 months or so) is that 1, I've built it into my daily routin…

By far the best thing that ever happened to me is Google Calendar. I use it for everything. I have a computer at home and a computer at work. I check it first thing in the morning and throughout the day. I have it set up to send me email reminders w…

Erica--You are so right! I've used a timer before (usually working for 25 minutes at a stretch), and have found it to be really beneficial. In fact, your comment reminded me to use it for a project I'm in the middle of--right now! So thank you. Ange…

I use an egg timer at work. I set the timer for 45 min..I work for the full 45 min, then take a 7-10 min mental break (work on a crossword, check my email, write to do lists) then, set the timer for 45 min and do it all over again!

I have to keep my purse on my body when at somewhere like starbucks, in other places I can put it aside and remember it.

There is one item that I always seem to remember to grab....my purse. I find that if I put all of the other things that I need to take with me on top of or beside of my purse, I don't forget them.

Always keep items (purse, keys, camera, etc.) on your body so as not to forget them. Sticky notes with reminders on the car dashboard. If you remember a 'to do' while in bed, throw 'something' (a hairbrush, crumpled paper, etc.) at your doorway to…

Glad to see you did your homework. Not me, I'm more prone to just jump in a do something first and then do the research. Backwards, I tell ya! But I'm glad you did it frontwards and are going to be okay. :)

Karen: Thanks for your concern. Actually, it was a former MD who suggested I take the Vitamin D at this dosage (I also have historically low Vit D blood levels). I also ran the dosages for all of the supplements by a couple of providers (I was at Ka…

Angela - Have you checked with your doctor to make sure these dosages are okay? I know that some vitamins can produce some bad side effects if taken in huge doses. Just like anything, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. :)

Mess in a Dress...and More

Thanks to both Brenda and Karen (another Portlander--yay!). I much appreciate your comments and concerns. The good news is that my prescriber is finally convinced/understands the importance of treating the ADD, so I'll be seeing him on Monday for a appt for a talk and meds.
I'm thinking about going back on methylin (Ritalin), instead of the dextroamphetamine. Even though the "drop off" with the ritalin was much more noticeable than that with the dextroamphetamine, I think I do better, overall wi… Continue

I'm Just a Mess In a Dress..Or, Having to Rebuild MyWorld

In addition to the ADD, I'm also bipolar. The combo wasn't much of a problem until recently, when some serious mania kicked in (due to a MD error, but that's another story). Now my doc's taken me off of my ADD meds (dextroamphetamine) because he fears it will trigger the mania.
Unfortunately, the mania is getting under control, but my ADD is still a big problem.
Any suggestions?
PS--I can't take Strattera because it really messes with my stomach...
