All I can say is, my guardian angel was very good to me - now let's just hope that thing mounted above me wasn't a traffic camera and I don't get a ticket.I was going along, having a decent day today…Continue

I was noticing this last night as I sat with friends watching a DVD of episodes of a show I like and was enjoying. But while others can sit in a straight backed chair for hours and barely move, focus…Continue

Hi ladies, this is just a rambling about sensory overload.A little background - most of the ADD/HD seems to be in my maternal side of the family, though my Dad seemed to have a touch of it too. But…Continue

Facebook - love it, hate it, or something else?

For a long time, I was one of those "Oh, no, I'll never have a Facebook page" types. Then in 2010, I took the plunge after a close friend told me about the privacy settings and it didn't sound so…Continue

I just ran a freakin red light!

All I can say is, my guardian angel was very good to me - now let's just hope that thing mounted above me wasn't a traffic camera and I don't get a ticket.I was going along, having a decent day today actually - got my errands done with no stress even, which is a miracle. But my mind was going, as I was driving through different streets than I usually take, and I started to look at houses (it's like an addiction with me, looking at houses, because I want a house - long story). And a few other…See More

I was noticing this last night as I sat with friends watching a DVD of episodes of a show I like and was enjoying. But while others can sit in a straight backed chair for hours and barely move, focus entirely on the show, I am:FidgetingTrying different positions in my chair, finally getting a second chair to put my feet up on, and later a pillowYawning because it was late and I never get decent sleepFeeling irritable even though it was a show I liked - because I really needed to go to bed but…See More

Sensory Overloads and Sometimes Wishing to Become a Recluse!

Hi ladies, this is just a rambling about sensory overload.A little background - most of the ADD/HD seems to be in my maternal side of the family, though my Dad seemed to have a touch of it too. But along with Mom's relatives (my cousins and possibly one of my uncles) having ADD, some have had Asperger/autism issues.I wonder if I do too, but in the quizzes I've taken it's just on the cusp. So I probably wouldn't be given the diagnosis of it. Yet the aggravations of sensory issues are certainly…See More

When you do something REALLY stupid - dangerous, costly, etc.

Last year it was going down a narrow alleyway in my van and snagging a tire on a fence and having to buy a new tire. This morning the evidence of my stupidity came in the form of hearing the smoke alarm - and having to put out a fire - because I was stupid enough to leave a candle burning last night before going to bed. Worse yet, it was not totally a forgetfulness thing. No, like the tire, it was that ignoring the nagging voice of common sense that told me not to risk it with the candle even…See More

New guy - planning to meet - I'm freaking out

I haven't gone on a date for a geological age. And I don't know if this is even a "date date" but my mind kept me awake till 3 a.m. with all this crap -Comorbidities - What if I have an agoraphobic panic attack if he wants to take the highway to the movie theater? What if it becomes more than a date - ambivalence about a relationshipWe are both religious but areas of possible conflict about doctrine - my parents had that, I want someone of my same religion - OTOH we are more similar than…See More

Waking up in the morning - and people calling too early - vent

I know, I'm fortunate that I don't have to get up for a job anymore; I'm on disability. So my apologies to those who do for even complaining about this.I'm trying to deal with all the ADD & stress though and sleep issues - which fluctuate. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. I have apnea, mild, and I choose for now to treat it by not sleeping on my back (I've trained myself to sleep on my side). But I have a devil of a time awakening in the mornings, and it helps so much with my cognitive and…See More

Do the steps to do a simple thing - like get gasoline - drive you nuts?

They do me! I mean, there are so freakin many of them if you break it down, and (maybe some of this is my OCD) - but I have to do them in order, and I'm all nervous about forgetting one, forgetting something like my debit card. So I go through a process like this:Pull into gas pump. Remember to pull right where this metal post is because then the gas caps (my van has two) are in a good place - don't pull right in front of the post though or the door won't open!Kill engine, remove keys, place…See More

Out of sight out of mind problem - needing to put "to do" papers etc. in my path or I'll forget

This is a real pain in the butt when it comes to trying to deal with a clutter problem. If I don't put that paper by, say, my purse, or the front door, so I'll see it when I go to go out and do business, I'll forget it exists. Or if it doesn't get done one day, and I for some reason can't do it the current day, I'll put it on my bed, so that when I go to bed at night, I'll see it and remember to put it back by the purse or door again! Do you see the problem here?! People say "Use a calendar."…See More

Just joined today

Hi,I found this site through a Google search and it looks like it could be very helpful. I will look forward to sharing with all of you.I am 50 and my ADD was diagnosed when I was about 35. I also have depression and anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD. (I'm on Social Security Disability for my combo of quirks.)I possibly have some subclinical Asperger's traits (dunno for sure on that one but I have the geeky obsessions and sensory issues like picky eating and am easily overstimulated by things like…See More
