I'm a mess

Well. As I explained in my other blog I stopped my Straterra because I won't have insurance to cover it soon. However I'm still filling my rx. I'm suppose to take 2-40 mg tables a day. Well, I started a new job on Nov 18th. I work for an Eye Doctor. I've had a horrible week. They say I'm not "Thinking". I feel like I am. I'm trying to do a good job. I like everyone there and feel like I finally found something I can stick out. I can honestly say until Tue. I had no idea how bad my A.D.D can be.… Continue

Happy New Year

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I stopped my Strattera. While I was unemployed I got state insurance and I found out the insurance I have through work won't cover it as most insurances don't. Atleast thats what the pharmacist told me. It's like 380 a month to purchase it. I'm a bit frustrated and I thought about maybe trying something natural. Some days I feel like such an idiot because organizing and sorting and all the little things I have to remember at work can become so overwhelming.… Continue

Shoot!

Well I had been on Straterra about a month as some of you may know. It took me a week or so to work up to the full 80mg. Well. I found a job! FINALLY and around my 2nd day I didn't eat enough and got real sick from my straterra. I had the dry heaves! So I stopped taking my medicine cold turkey. Took a few days before I had a horrible day. I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO loopy. I frustrated myself beyond belief. So I've taken 40 mg the last two days and I'm going to start back up in the morning. I need to… Continue

Oh Boy - Kids with A.D.H.D

I know this sites for us Women with A.d.h.d but I figured so many of you are mothers so maybe you could help me out. I'm curious do any of you have children that are not medicated and have you found any ways of handling their a.d.h.d w/out medications. Like cutting out sugar, types of food they eat, etc.

My son just started H.S. I ended up having to home school him half of the school year last year because he and his teacher just did not mesh. This year, I love his new teacher and he's had grea… Continue

Question for those of you that take stimulant medication

I'm curious if you have A.D.D or A.D.H.D and do you feel like it gives you more motivation/energy/drive to accomplish tasks during the day? I'm on my first trial of medication (Straterra) and have been for a little over a week. It's way to early to tell if its working. He gave me a choice between Straterra and Adderall and I chose Straterra. I feel like I need a stimulant but the idea of it makes me nervous because I don't want to feel strung out like I drank 10 cups of coffee. So I'm just curio… Continue

Hi Twistdsunshine. I'm glad you were able to up to your 80mg a day. Hopefully they will kick in and help soon. I have not noticed a difference whatsoever. Other than I feel like I am in the beginning stages of pregnancy! Which is literally IMPOSSIBLE! I had my tubes tied 3 years ago. So I know it is the addition of the Strattera that is causing my stomach to be in such an uproar. I was hoping it would start to settle down some over the weekend. But today I feel even more nauseated than before. Oh and today I am also fighting off extreme tiredness. I have felt myself nod several times. Just hoping I don't fall asleep. My boss would not be too happy about that, lol! I have one more trail bottle of the strattera and then a rx for ritalin. I go back to my dr. in a month to discuss the differences. Have you experienced any of this? Or do you feel the 80mg is helping your add symptoms more than the 40mg? Maybe I should try uping my dose as well. I just don't know what the solution is.

Hello. In answer to your question I am taking 40mg a day. Once in the morning. Still getting dizzy and slightly nauseous. ugh! I have noticed no change in my alertness and concentration at all. But I hear it takes a while to kick in. So far though no changes.... My Dr. only gave me 2 wks of samples and I hear that it can take even longer than that to really take effect. Ok hold on I don't remember exactly what you wrote. I had something else to say but now I can't remember. Oh well. At least I know it's not just me anymore. Hang on let me go re-read it, lol.

I don't blame you for being frustrated. I know when I was trying to get diagnosed I was frustrated too. I went back thinking I was getting medicine and the doctor told me I had to go see a psychologist to get diagnosed. I was mad and I did not want to go to a psychologist. I had to wait longer and then had to wait for testing and scoring and you know how it goes. It took over a month before I got the medicine and I know I didn't have to wait as long for appointments as you do a lot of places. It is a pain to go once a month but I do it since I want my medicine.

I write all of the time when if I am upset to get the feelings out. It is nice to have others who understand as "normal" people don't.

I hope your appointment went well. Did they start you on medicine? I just was thinking about you and wondered how you were doing. I am also going to ask to add you as a friend on my page so we can stay in touch.

Strattera is a little different as it not a controlled substance. The Adderall can only be dispensed for 1 month supply and you have to get a new prescription each and every month. It is a pain. My doctor requires I actually have an appointment with him each month too. And then my therapy appointment is with a separate person, a psychologist. I guess the medication laws could be different in your state. I live in North Carolina. The laws have to do with abuse of the medication and people sell it on the street. If you get this before your appointment I would ask for the long acting formulation if it is not to expensive with the insurance you (hopefully) have. There is no generic for Adderall XR at the present time. Hope this helps.
